Reasons to Detox: Let Go of That Which No Longer Serves You

Detox is a scary word for some. No one likes the idea of deprivation. However, detox is not deprivation, it is a letting go. During detox we let go of habits and thoughts that no longer serve us so we have room in our lives for the new. New energy, new health, and new mental clarity. It is about focusing on what we most want for ourselves and our health and choosing actions, thoughts, and foods that will get us to where we want to go. If this is something you would like to do for yourself contact me at so I can tell you about the 21 day guided detox program I have designed. Starts April 1st.

Barbara Cronin lists the following as the top seven reasons to detox:

1. Remove Toxins and Parasites from the Body

Toxins are stored in tissues and organs in the body. Long-term exposure to toxins results in metabolic and genetic changes. These changes affect cell growth, behaviour, and immune response. It’s essential that we rid our bodies of these deadly, disease-producing toxins.

Parasites are microscopic organisms that invade the body, usually via skin or oral ingestion. They feed on our body’s supplies, robbing us of nutrients, vitamins, and amino acids [the building block of proteins].

Parasites, known to microbiologists as “the great masqueraders,” cause a myriad of symptoms that conventional medicine incorrectly attributes to other illnesses. Primarily residing in the colon, parasites migrate to the blood, lymph, heart, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen, eyes, brain, and joints, causing illness. Ridding the body of parasites reduces allergies and illness.

2. Enhanced Immune System Function

Toxins and chemicals are stored in the immune system and this decreases its ability to function properly. Add to that extra energy spent with overloaded elimination processes, and our immune system is weakened. A compromised immune system leaves us vulnerable to colds and flu, and even more dangerous sicknesses we’re exposed to daily. This decreases the quality of life. Performing a regular detox is one of the best ways to strengthen the immune system and fight off infections.

3. Prevent Chronic Disease

The statistics are startling. The World Health Organisation [WHO] implicates environmental toxins in 60-80 per cent of cancers. Our elimination channels are on overload; we must assist in the process and minimise the burden. Toxins build-up and damage our bodies. When free radicals aren’t neutralised, they wreak havoc in the body. For example, free radicals are linked to Parkinson’s disease, cataracts, Alzheimer’s, and even stroke. Toxins in the body cause cancers, heart disease, neurological disorders, brain diseases, and more. The list seems endless.

4. Improve Quality of Life

A body filled with toxins doesn’t function as it should. We live in pain with joint stiffness and aches; chronic headaches; digestive disorders like diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome [IBS]; insomnia; lack of energy; depression, and even compromised memory. These degenerative disorders rob us of life everyday!

Ridding and neutralising toxins in the body restores health and vitality. After you detox, you’ll look better and feel better than you have in years.

5. Lose Weight

Obesity is on the rise, contributing to serious health problems. Diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure are directly linked to excess weight. Ensuring a healthy, active life and preventing the onset of debilitating diseases means reaching and maintaining a healthy weight.

Detox programmes rid the body of toxins stored in fat cells. Excess weight and extra inches are lost during the process. The body also encases deadly toxins in water.

When the body eliminates these toxins, water weight disappears. Not only people lose weight now, they often lose inches of fat in various places, especially around the middle.

6. Restore Balance to Body Systems

Our body systems were created to work together in harmony. Numerous systems like hormonal, endocrine, nervous, and digestive, perform precise functions to keep us healthy and functioning at our optimum level.

Bodies that are overloaded with toxins have compromised internal regulating systems. When these systems don’t function properly, our health declines.

Detox restores balance to these systems, so they can function properly again. Depression and mood disorders go away; sleep becomes restful and rejuvenating; without overloaded systems, we are singing the same song with our subtle cues and eating what our body needs; our digestive system is “unclogged,” so wastes are immediately expelled, and the deadly toxin build-up never begins.

7. Stop and Slow Premature Aging

Oxidative stress is one of the biggest factors in premature aging. Free radicals attack the body, sometimes causing irreparable damage to the inside and outside. Free radicals and heavy metals are a dangerous mix. Heavy metals promote free radical formation dramatically. Detoxing rids the body of free radicals and heavy metals. The body can better absorb nutrients, including anti-oxidants and vitamins essential in fighting oxidative stress while slowing down the aging process.

In summary, detox is nothing short of an instant payback plan for one’s improved complexion, energy levels, and vitality.

Breaking Down Your Own Barriers

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” -Rumi

Oh Rumi…you genius…Being aware of our barriers is the first step in breaking them down and letting them go. I fully believe that we create our own realities and I could not understand why certain areas of my life were not living up to the grand ideas I had  and knew were possible. What have I been doing to stop myself?

A wonderful friend of mine was nice enough to call me a coward yesterday, although she used much kinder words. I got to watch a circle play in my life as my “aha” moment made me realize the barriers I have thrown up in various areas of my life. I have shut people out, pushed people away, failed to communicate fully, played games in a lame attempt to get someone to prove themselves, and engaged in other self-limiting acts. I have analyzed other’s actions instead of my own when things didn’t go the way I wanted. I have looked outside myself for approval instead of finding it inside myself. I have expected and feared the worst instead of choosing faith in the unknown. I have wanted others to love me enough first while I held back just a little….

ME? I do that? All that? But don’t I know better?

Even after all the books, YouTube self-help videos, studying eastern medicine, taoist philosophy, and watching Brene Brown’s TED talks on vulnerability, several times? Was I really not allowing myself to be fully vulnerable?

NOPE…not really

Why would I do that? Oh yes, my faulty protection mechanism. Fear has been holding me back. In every circumstance I was attempting to protect myself, it never worked, but I kept going with it. Aware of it today, I am ready for a change.

Are you?

Giving yourself fully, whether it is to a person, a friendship worth saving, a passion, your dream job, or the universe itself, is the bravest thing you could ever possibly do. Trying to protect ourselves will never lead to anything amazing.  Our only barriers to love and the life we want are inside ourselves. Today is a good day to look inside, see what is stopping you, and break it down.

I’ll go first. My first attempts at vulnerability and bravery. I am about to press Publish on this post and expose to the internet and the world that I am not perfect. . . You’re shocked, I’m sure 🙂 . . .

Renew Yourself Says Spring!

Spring is here! It may not feel like it where you are right now, but spring is here. It is a time for planting seeds, not only in the earth but for ourselves as well. Spring is an excellent time to begin again, to reestablish goals, and it is an excellent time to let go of all things that are not serving you. We deserve new growth as much as the greenery that will soon be displaying new shoots out of the ground. One of the best ways to ensure a healthier year is a spring detox. A spring detox is a great way to eliminate physical, as well as emotional toxins.

Time for planting!

Time for planting!

Toxins are everywhere. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the foods we eat, the cleaners, soaps, and shampoos we use. Your liver, kidneys, lymphatic, digestive and immune system become overloaded and overworked and struggle to keep up. The result of this accumulation of toxins in our body tissues is chronic and degenerative diseases, immune system disorders, neurological disorders, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, cardio-vascular diseases, cancers, obesity, and more.

One of the best things you can do for your health is to use the spring to detox. It is nature’s natural time of birth and renewal.

Simple things you can do include: Detox your mind of thoughts that do not serve you. Choose whole grains and plenty of vegetables as your food. Drink lots of warm water and herbal tea. Avoid negative situations, poor food choices, toxic chemicals, and begin each day with deep breathing.

If you would like more guidance, I have designed a day-by day, step by step 21 day detox to help you achieve wellness goals in a whole new way. Let me support you so you can reach your goals and achieve a new level of health. The detox will be sure to get YOU GLOWING!

Reclaim Your Passion

I had meaning to take a painting class for years…

I had thought about it, almost signed up, and then forgot about my intention over and over again. The usual worries would always stop me: money, time, fear of not being good enough, and other self-sabotaging excuses… and then last week a close friend signed me up for one without me even telling her about my unspoken desire. We went and we painted for almost four hours and it was amazing. Amazing! I am not the next Picasso, I prove this by sharing my painting with you :), but it lit something in me. I swear to you some lines have even disappeared from my face and as I look at myself I realize I look and feel more relaxed after this class even a week later. A part of me that has been sleeping for years was suddenly awakened, and it wants more. More creating, more art, more dance, more forms of self-expression, and more of that kind of joy.

So why did I hold myself back? Why did I deny myself something so simple that I knew I would love? Was I waiting for the perfect class, partner, teacher, paintbrush, canvas? Any reason I can fathom seems a very poor excuse. I do not know why so many of us procrastinate our joy. Every time you deny yourself a passion it is a betrayal of the self.

So what is it you need to reclaim today? What did you love doing as a child that you no longer allow yourself the time to do? For you it could be fishing, cooking, gardening, drawing, puppet making, movie making, song composition, writing, swimming… I have no idea. However, I do know that the joy you will find in this reclaiming will ooze out of you and onto others. You will be happier and everyone will notice and say…let me get some more of that person! We are inspired by people who pursue their desires. When you inspire yourself you will automatically inspire others.

This is about being true to yourself.

What will you reclaim?

I say…Reclaim them all…
