“I learned long ago that those who are the happiest are those who do the most for others.” Booker T Washington
You cannot give to someone without giving to yourself.
Deepak Chopra’s second law, in his book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success is the law of giving. In his book he states ” if you want joy, give joy to others; if you want love, learn to give love; if you want attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation; if you want material affluence, help others to become materially affluent. In fact, the easiest way to get what you want is to help others get what they want. This principle works equally well for individuals, corporations, societies, and nations. If you want to be blessed with all the good things in life, learn to silently bless everyone with all the good things in life. “
Instead of being stressed out about buying presents, get excited for all the giving you get to do at this time of year! When you give, give for the pure joy of giving. Don’t have expectations of something in return and never overextend yourself to the point of becoming bitter. Giving grudgingly is not giving. Give because you want to make someone’s day a little bit better, and without you even trying it will make your day better too.
Here are few simple ways you can give:
Write a thank you note
Donate a blanket or coat
Give a heartfelt compliment
Give away books
Send a handwritten letter
Speak to a store manager about a great employee
Play Santa
Leave an amazing tip
When you get your coffee or tea get one for someone else
Give an hour of undivided attention to a loved one.
What are the best things you’ve given? What is the best giving thing you have done this week? What is the best thing someone has given to you?
